Project SEED was
founded on the belief that children who are failing in school can exhibit
enormous competence and joy in learning high school and college level
algebra when their classes are taught by a trained specialist - someone
who loves mathematics and understands it in depth. Project SEED instructors
and trainers are highly skilled master teachers who demonstrate the
truth of this statement on a daily basis whether they are teaching fourth
graders or college students, teachers or corporate researchers.
Project SEED's mathematics
specialists have earned at least a bachelor's degree in mathematics
or completed equivalent mathematics course work in other majors such
as physics, computer science, and engineering. In fact, many specialists
hold advanced degrees in these fields. Prior to entering the classroom,
each specialist completes a rigorous training program in Project SEED's
interactive, Socratic methodology. Peer observation and ongoing workshops
assure that Project SEED instruction remains responsive to the needs
of individuals, teachers, or school districts. As a result, Project
SEED provides school districts with a team of experts in mathematical
content and standards-based pedagogy who can serve as a resource for
all mathematics initiatives.
